Background of eDeaf
The Deaf community is one of the most marginalized groups in South Africa. Because of the fact that they cannot communicate freely with the hearing world, they are often regarded as incompetent or not intelligent, and not fit to be employed. This is far from the truth!
The unemployment rate amongst the Deaf is very high due to various reasons. Historic circumstances, including a low standard of education in schools for the Deaf and a very low level of literacy, together with ongoing limited access to information on radio, television and in interpersonal relationships, are debilitating factors.
Several local companies have taken the brave step to employ deaf persons with great success, proving that in some career fields the Deaf can be just as good or even better than hearing employees.
The general public and the business sector need to be sensitized to the challenge to comply with employment legislation regulating employment targets for the Disabled.
eDeaf is a Deaf owned BEE company, established to provide a holistic service to the employer and the deaf employee. eDeaf will be a distinctive, recognizable and respected brand.
